Media & Communications Officer

Contract Period: 6 month- Extendable

Base location: Gilgit, Pakistan.

The Role:

The Media & Communications Team ensure that SEEDO’s projects and its impact is effectively communicated to SEEDO’s internal and external stakeholders through a variety of materials and channels. We are looking for dedicated and highly motivated professional with a strong commitment to SEEDO’s values and beliefs for the role.

What we are looking for:

The Media and Communications Officer will contribute to delivering effective and timely high quality communication of the SEEDO’s activities to the relevant stakeholders; and promote SEEDO and its works through different channels of media. He/she will ensure consistent branding of SEEDO projects throughout SEEDO communications. This position will provide technical support and advice to program staff and partners on communication methods, materials and channels.

Major Responsibilities (TORs):

  • Assist to design and implement region specific project based activities for social mobilization and advocacy in selected target districts with the support of district project coordinators.
  • To initiate advocacy process through engaging policy makers / key influential at provincial level to get their support for policy reforms to achieve program objectives in selected districts.
  • To build network with educational institutes (Colleges, Universities) to engage youth and academia in social mobilization process through awareness raising activities (conducting seminars, art and painting exhibitions, essay competition and formation of volunteer networks.
  • While implementing project activities at district level, the resource will also build / strengthen institutional collaboration with government and private institution, relevant authorities to extend PPC interventions at provincial level.
  • Provide technical& analytical support to district project coordinators in development and implementation of communication plan, appropriate use of available communication channels, various activities for social development, aimed at both social and behavior change.
  • The position will also be responsible to explore opportunities to build public private partnership where needed.
  • To identify, write and share success stories of the field activities Capacity building of District project coordinators on planning, implementation and reporting of communication activities, monthly reports and project reports.
  • The resource will also responsible to develop content for social media, Information, Education & Communication (IEC) material and mass media
  • Resource will also be responsible to liaison with media organizations and other relevant institutions for media coverage of major events.
  • Report monthly and quarterly on assigned project activities.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the line manager and senior management of the organization.

Requirements/Selection Criteria 🙁 Education, Experience, Skills, Languages etc.):

  • University degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Media & Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, social sciences and other relevant subjects.
  • Knowledge about internal communications, external communication, media handling, social mobilization, advocacy and effective use of social media.
  • Ability to perform under challenging situations, in remote areas, takes initiatives according to situation and performs as team player.
  • Ability to plan and initiate program management proce
  • sses to achieve program objectives.
  • High sense of developing and managing the production of printed material, including brochures, leaflets, briefing third party designers/printers to ensure brand and style is met.
  • Ability to influence local government through media to get project tailored targets.
  • Knowledge about planning, executing and evaluation of communication plans.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, analysis and computer/information systems skills.
  • Ability to communicate in affective manners especially in interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to handle and manage events at district level and collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • At least 3-5 years of work experience with the Government and reputable organizations in the similar field of work
  • Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of local areas languages is highly desirable.

District /Project Coordinators

The Role:

The district coordinator has the overall responsibility for field implementation of the project activities in the project districts (Gilgit/Ghizer/Hunza/Nagar) under the supervision of Media and Communication Manager at SEEDO head office. The incumbent of this position will be required to work in close collaboration with the other technical teams, research monitoring and evaluation, administration & finance. S/he will lead the districts teams and will provide technical backstopping, administration support, government liaison (through focal persons and district administration) at the districts levels.

The district coordinator will be leading the district teams and will be a face of SEEDO at district level. While working with different line departments, the district coordinator will be equipped / trained in various disciplines e.g. finance, operation, HR and liaison with government agencies on need basis. SEEDO strongly believes in staff’s professional development and capacity building. The district coordinator may also get an opportunity to participate in various local and international trainings / conferences.

Major Responsibilities (TORs):

  • Provide leadership to district teams for implementation of Program/Project.
  • Ensures that the overall district plans for programmatic activities are implemented as per agreed timelines with expected quality.
  • Coordinate in monitoring of performance against approved programs and suggest changes to the manager for timely decision making.
  • Ensure monthly/quarterly/bi-annually review and planning meetings of the district staff and prepare periodic work plan against SEEDOand ensure monitoring against the set indicators at district levels.
  • Build linkages with donors,Public, corporate sector, civil society, Govt institutions at local level, and government line department at district level.
  • Arranging meetings of project staff /donor agency with govt official /administration at district level.
  • Update District govt about project updates as required in writing
  • Report head office about activities, progress and outcomes of project interventions.
  • Arranging and facilitating head office for planned activities, meetings, and other tasks at district level
  • Undertake and supervise any survey, study, fact finding, and evidence collection of project impacts and problem areas with documentary evidence and share it with head office required for project activities.

  • Master degree from a reputable and recognized university in social sciences or other relevant subjects including social sciences, governance, public policy, etc.
  • At least five years of experience at managerial position/ leading a big team
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be a resident of project area district with a valid domicile

Proposal Writer

The Role:

He/She will be responsible for writing funding proposals and submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects. At least two writing samples, which must include at least one proposal developed in the past, required for submission along with a cover letter and resume.  (Funded proposals will be preferred, if there are more funded proposals, please list them along with the donor and the amount of funding)

Major Responsibilities (TORs):

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to donors, government, foundations and corporate sources.
  • Generates new initiatives befitting SEEDO mandate. 
  • Perform prospect research on donors and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and donor grants.
  • Work with finance team to develop grant budgets.
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by donors.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Track statistics relevant to development and provide SEEDO with written materials necessary for donor stewardship.
  • Work with Program Manager to provide development input for all written institutional materials including Annual Report.   
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
